Olive Grove

Olive Oil

Our extra virgin olive oil is produced from olive trees planted on our vineyard. The olives are hand-picked, cold pressed and the oil is bottled unfiltered. The oil is sold in 250ml bottles.

The oil is rich with aromas of new mown grass and hay - and the finish provides a hearty kick of freshly ground black pepper. As a national judge of olive oil, John Porter firmly believes that many of the oils produced in this country are equal if not superior to many of the boutique oils produced in Europe. What New Zealand has done with Sauvignon Blanc - we are now the best producer in the world of quality wines for this variety - we can also do with olive oil. It is a function of our climate and soils.

If you believe in the French paradox - you will know that a healthy consumption of olive oil (as opposed to animal fats) and red wine, which has been made with extended skin contact (such as our Pinot Noir), is a recipe for longevity. As if to confirm the theory, this oil has an almost iridescent glow in the bottle - as if the goodness is yearning to escape. Picked on 6 June  - just before the rains that would have ruined the quality - this oil is a delight, and may be the best oil we have produced in the six years we have been in production.
